News :: New .tel domain registration open to all

As of today domain registrations for the new .tel domain are open for anybody at a premium price of approximately £79.99 each.  General registrations will be available to all from March 24th 2009 at a reduced price of approximately £12.99 each.

.tel is a top-level domain (TLD) that maps domain names to contact information or keywords which are stored in the DNS.  It could become an online equivalent to the phone directory.  It allows companies to create a virtual address book that stores contact information online.

Unlike normal URLs, which point to a website, the .tel domain will only show information stored on the DNS server for the domain.  This can include telephone numbers, email addresses, GPS coordinates and more.
